In a series of Tweets, President of the U.S. Donald Trump blasted social media companies for their biased censorship of conservative voices. “Social Media is totally discriminating against Republican/Conservative voices,” he said. Adding, “speaking loudly and clearly for the Trump Administration, we won’t let that happen.”

Trump addressed the topic of censorship by social media giants like Facebook, Youtube and Twitter after several GOP candidates for the U.S. midterm elections flagged them for redacting the candidates’ posts.

For example, on August 3, 2018, Facebook rejected one of Elizabeth Heng’s campaign ads that featured video content about how the Cambodian Genocide affected her family. Facebook said the ad did not follow the company’s advertisement guidelines.

In saying why censorship in America was wrong, Trump tweeted: “They are closing down the opinions of many people on the RIGHT, while at the same time doing nothing to others. Too many voices are being destroyed, some good & some bad, and that cannot be allowed to happen. Who is making the choices, because I can already tell you that too many mistakes are being made. Censorship is a very dangerous thing & absolutely impossible to police.”

In not mincing his words that he still considers news outlets such as CNN and MSNBC as ‘fake news”, he explained why he did not clamp down on them.

“If you are weeding out Fake News, there is nothing so Fake as CNN & MSNBC, & yet I do not ask that their sick behavior be removed. I get used to it and watch with a grain of salt, or don’t watch at all. Let everybody participate, good & bad, and we will all just have to figure it out!”
